KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 18
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in collaboration with the Nepal Forum of Science Journalists (NFSJ), organised its third science dialogue session regarding climate change impacts on agriculture and the ways to adapt climate change risks to farmlands.
At the event, Kiran Bhusal, Lecturer at Department of Life Science of Kathmandu University, stressed on using sub-sectoral integrated smart technology to deal with climate change induced problems. He further explained smart technology that should be used to mitigate problems observed on agricultural production such as vegetables, paddy and maize crops in Namobuddha Municipality, Kavre district.
Bhusal who had already worked in the Belbottar area further mentioned that traditional climate friendly technology was used in this village to mitigate the impacts of chemical fertilizers.
The Third UNESCO-NFSJ Science Dialogue Series was based on on-site interaction among locals/farmers of Namobudhha Municipality-6, Belbottar regarding climate change driven changes in agriculture.
During the dialogue, locals emphasized the impact of climate changes causing water crisis, insects in maize and moths in vegetables increased, butterflies in paddy cultivation were observed along with many other problems.
Locals/farmers, 15 journalists from seven provinces, UNESCO representatives, NFSJ members along with experts participated in the dialogue which was moderated by NFSJ Vice-President Madhusudhan Guragain.
