Woman accuses husband, in-laws of torture

Kathmandu, March 29:

A 26-year-old woman today spoke of the physical and mental torture she had to face at the hands of her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law during her five years of marriage.

At a press meet, Jasmine Sharma presented a medical report of the physical torture by her in-laws and her husband on March 24 and a complaint lodged at the Hanuman Dhoka Police Office as evidence.

Sharma accused Dr Benju Sharma, her mother-in-law and the director of Nepal Television, and her husband Juhar Raj Pandey and sister-in-law Junu of torturing her. She said she decided to speak of her ordeal as she was being physically assaulted for allegations like theft and for dowry.

“Many a time I was accused of theft and was not served. My service at the KIST College added fuel to the fire and even my son was being neglected when I was not around.”

Dr Benju Sharma told this reporter over telephone that the press meet and the accusations were a conspiracy to tarnish her image.
