Women’s group tightens screws for bilateral truce
Kathmandu, October 27:
The Women’s Security Pressure Group today organised a signature drive at New Baneshwor this afternoon to press the warring parties and civil society to re-establish peace in the country.
WSPG president Sahana Pradhan said, “Establishment of peace is the first step to ensure the future of the country, and this is our effort to convert the unilateral ceasefire into a bilateral ceasefire.” Pradhan added that the responsible bodies should realise that the peace needs to established soon. “This is a medium to create public pressure for peace, as anyone is free to sign and express their support for bilateral ceasefire,” she said.
“We have conducted signature campaigns in the past also to pressurize the concerned bodies for women’s property and citizenship rights,” said Pradhan, “As these issues are coming up today, those have been fairly successful.”
Sabitri Thapa, general secretary of WSPG, said, “Today is the starting day of the peace campaign. We will continue this campaign and collect more signatures from people wherever there are mass gatherings.” She said that the campaign is also being carried out in 18 districts by the branch offices of the WSPG.
Organisers announced the objective of the campaign and collected signatures from passersby. More than 100 members of Kavre WSPG and the recently-formed Lalitpur WSPG participated in the drive.
