KATHMANDU, JUNE 21

The Nepali Film Association has filed a writ petition at Patan High Court challenging Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah's decision not to allow any Hindi films to be screened in theatres in Kathmandu metropolis.

Court registrar Thagindra Kattel said the Film Association's case was registered today afternoon. "The KMC has decided to ban the screening of Adipurush and other Hindi films. However, it had said that it was the right move to ban Adipurush. But banning all Hindi films is not the right move," said Kattel. "We have registered a complaint. There's a court hearing tomorrow."

The complaint was registered through the Association's legal adviser and advocate Jailal Bhandari. Mayor Balen Shah, KMC Police, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Communication, Information and Technology have been registered as defendants.

Senior Vice-president of Film Association Gopalkaji Kayastha said the case was filed with the objective of finding a legal way rather than getting involved in personal matters. He said prohibition was nothing if it was only for Adipurush, adding, "The metropolis has stopped all Hindi films, but it is not clear whether this falls within the jurisdiction of the metropolis."
