'PM to quit if no-confidence motion endorsed'

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai on Wednesday made it clear that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, also his party's chairman, would leave the government if the no-confidence motion filed against him got endorsed.

Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu today, Bhattarai said, "If the no-confidence vote gets endorsed, the Prime Minister will resign and pave the way [for the new government]."

"The UML is ready to accept the result of the democratic process," he clarified, "If the no-trust motion gets endorsed, a new government will be formed and the UML will play a constructive role from the opposition."

Meanwhile, Bhattarai also expressed discontent over the Speaker's decision to postpone discussions on three budget bills till discussion on the no-confidence motion.

"When the Parliament is holding regular meetings, it should forward regular agendas. Before concluding them, one cannot move to another," he said.

Speaking at the same function, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat, however, said that the House should discuss the no-confidence motion first as delay in endorsement of the fiscal bills would not affect the national economy.

Meanwhile, Mahat said a new government would be formed under the leadership of CPN MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal within next 10 days.

Maoist leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi hoped that the Dahal-led government would be a national consensus government.

He also requested the UML to extend support to the new government.
