KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 10
Emerging writer and storyteller Anushka Silwal officially launched her debut poetry collection, The Burden of Breath, at a special event in Kathmandu on Friday. The anthology explores themes of love, identity, and the delicate weight of human existence, marking an introspective literary debut for the 24-year-old author.
Silwal, who graduated from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, with a degree in marketing and a minor in psychology, described writing as her "quiet, steadfast companion." The collection features 117 poems reflecting moments of vulnerability and self-reflection.
The book was jointly unveiled by Prof. Govinda Raj Bhattarai and Madhab L. Maharjan of Mandala Book Point, who commended Silwal's lyrical precision and emotional honesty. Early reviewers have noted the book's resonance with readers navigating change, uncertainty, and personal growth.
Sharing her inspiration, Silwal said the title was born during a trek in Manang, where she realized that "to breathe is to bear - life's first gift is also its heaviest burden." She expressed gratitude to her mentors, teachers, and family for their support, adding that part of the proceeds will go toward a philanthropic cause.
"Writing has always been a quiet part of me," Silwal said. "This book is my way of offering that part to the world - for anyone who has ever needed understanding or simply needed to feel heard."
The Burden of Breath is now available at major bookstores across Kathmandu.
