Nepal International Theatre Festival 2019 to kick off in February

KATHMANDU: To the delight of those who revel in watching and performing plays, Nepal International Theatre Festival (NITFest) 2019 is going to be organised from February 25 to March 4 in Kathmandu.

The festival is themed Theatre for Social Transformation: An Artistic Voyage. The event will go on for eight days in five different venues.

Eight different theatre groups -- Mandala Theatre Nepal, Theatre Village, Theatre Mall, Shilpee Theatre, Actors' Studio, Katha Ghera, One World Theatre, and Sarwanam Theatre -- are the organisers of the festival.

According to the organisers, NITFest 2019 is a celebration of art, culture and traditions in the form of theatre performances. "We are encouraged to incorporate the aesthetics of Jatra, Poetry, and the landmarks of Nepali Rangamanch together with vibrant productions from international sphere during the eight-day long festival."

Highly aesthetic and unique narrative or experimental play production that has a clear relationship with current socio-political issues have been welcomed to participate in the event (local or global).

Registration for the plays opened on November 30, 2018. Submission deadline is December 31, 2018. Final selection announcement has been scheduled for January 15, 2019.
