Shanti Thatal's rendition of Muna-Madan leaves audience spellbound

KATHMANDU: Legendary singer and prominent composer Shanti Thatal mesmerised the audience with an entralling performance of Muna-Madan in this month's edition of Paleti concert series at Nepalaya's 'r' sala at Kalikasthan in Kathmandu.

Thatal, who had earlier composed the music for Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota's Muna-Madan in 1970 and in the late '70s, was supported by singers Bimala Century Pradhan and Meena Niraula in the historical performance.

At the request of Nepalaya, Singer Shanti Thatal recomposed Muna-Madan's original tune and presented it to the audience with her team during the emotional night, the organisers said in a statement.

The audience really became emotional as the team performed -- Hey Mera Bhai, Ti Tirmra Muna Mareke Chainan, at the end of the show. Breaking the silence, grand-daughter of Kavi Siromani Lekhnath Paudel, Dr Prativa Pandey said, "I almost cried."

"Really powerful, excellent show," former diplomat Dr Bhes Bahadur Thapa added.

Shanti Thatal and her team was supported by Dinesh Regmi in keyboards, Sandesh Maharjan in tabala, Suraj Pradhan in guitars, Sundar Maharjan in percussion, and Balram Salam in basuri.
