12 killed, 42 hurt in mishaps

Baglung, March 19:

Altogether 12 persons died and 42 were injured in three separate accidents in Baglung, Parbat and Dhading districts.

Eight persons were killed when a jeep skidded 200 metres down the road at Belhimasra in Nareythanthi VDC of Baglung district today. Six others were injured.

The jeep (Ga 1 Ja 2541) was going for Burtiwad from Baglung bazaar, police said adding that the dead have not been identified until evening.

Eyewitnesses said driver Deepak Acharya of Baranja in Myagdi district and Buddhi Bahadur Shrish, a staffer at the Baglung district development committee from of Righa in Baglung, were among those killed.

Two of the injured are undergoing treatment in Pokhara and a police team from the Hatiya Area Police Office and the Nepal Red Cross Society volunteers and locals are engaged in the rescue work, police said.

In Dhading district, two persons died while 34 others were injured in a bus accident at Galuandi in Pinda VDC last night.

A bus (Na 2 Kha 8565) heading for Kathmandu from Dang collided with another bus (Na 3 Kha 3477) heading Kathmandu from Birgunj. Those killed were passengers from the Birgunj-Kathmandu bus, said police adding that they have not been identified yet.

In another mishap in Parbat district, two persons died on the spot when a jeep (Ga 1 Ja 3357) skidded off the road and fell 200 metres down the slope. The jeep was going from Lukhundeurali to Bhoksing. Inspector Dambar Bahadur KC at the district police office said Parbati Aryal, 25, and Keshav Adhikari, 33, both of Bhoksing, died on the spot while jeep driver Ramesh Malla and one Keshav Adhikari of Dhading were injured and are undergoing treatment.
