BAJURA, AUGUST 29
Some 120 families have been facing the risk of landslides for the past 24 years in Khaptadchhededaha Rural Municipality, Bajura.
Most of the families in Gaiban of the rural municipality are at high risk.
Krishna Bahadur Dhami, a local, said that the landslides took place in the village some 23 years ago. He said that the villagers have been facing the problem of landslide for many years.
"The villagers neither sleep at night nor eat peacefully when the monsoon begins," he added. Dhami said that dozens of settlements were at high risk of landslide.
Another local, Rupesh Dhami, said that they were at risk of landslide for the last three decades. He said that Nepal Red-cross Society had offered blankets and some utensils 16 years ago.
He said that no villager stayed at home once the monsoon began due to the fear of landslides every year.
Prem Dhami said that local, province and central governments had paid no attention to address the problems. He added that many leaders came with the commitment to resolve the problems during the election, but no leader had bothered about the problem after winning the elections. "No leaders even uttered anything about the problems," he said, and added that the people had yet to get even a tent and they were ignored by the state. The villagers have complained about the same with the district administration office, but in vain. The people at Guibanmanauli, Mallagaun, Chautani, Budiganga Municipality and Brahmatola are at high risk.
