Chhededaha Lake is at high risk of landslides due to the mud slip on the banks of the lake following continuous rainfall in Khaptadchhededaha Rural Municipality, Bajura.

The mud on the banks of the lake has been undulating for many years and the landslide has nearly reached the lake.

Nar Bahadur Rawat, a local, said that landslide debris might bury the lake. The lake is one of the major attractions for tourists. He said that no one had paid attention to this problem.

He said the landslide on the side of the lake took pace with the onset of the monsoon. Locals said that the local and central government should take initiative to preserve the lake.

Bimal Dhami, a local of the rural municipality, said that everyone has to take responsibility to preserve the lake. He added that the lake would help ensure economic development of the rural municipality. Dhami said that landslide was the main problem and work on managing the landslide was the urgent need.

Chhededaha Lake is located on the side of Martadi-Thamlekh road section.

The lake has a great significance as it is connected to the Rara-Khaptad trekking route. But the lake is in a state of neglect. A local said that if the lake was preserved and beautified, it would attract more tourists in the days to come.

Chhededaha Lake Conservation Development Board former chairman Govinda Rawat said that every individual should take the responsibility of preserving and promoting the lake.

Meanwhile, rural municipality Chairman Dil Bahadur Rawat said that the rural municipality was committed to protecting the lake. He said that the lake would be protected using modern technology.
