2 injured as police open fire at wedding ceremony
JANAKPUR: Two people were injured when police opened fire at a wedding ceremony in Govindapur of Sabaila-8, Dhanusha district on Saturday night.
According to SP Ram Dutta Joshi of the District Police Office (DPO), Dhanusha, the injured have been identified as Bimal Mandal and Kamalesh Mandal.
Bimal received bullet on his back and Kamalesh on his leg, the Janakpur Zonal Hospital informed.
The injured have been taken to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) for further treatment, police informed.
The DPO said that they opened fire in self-defense after some intoxicated wedding attendants tried to attack Head Constable Surendra Raut and Constable Pankaj Kumar Yadav of the Area Police Office, Sabaila.
A police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Sabaila, reached the wedding venue at around 9:45 pm yesterday to close the sound system as it was disturbing peace in the society, SP Joshi said.
The DPO informed that they have taken Raut and Yadav under control for investigation.
