KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 23
The Armed Police Force (APF) has arrested a 22-year-old man in Chandrapur, Rautahat, with illegal firearms, ammunition and a khukuri during a security check on Saturday.
According to APF No. 11 Battalion, the arrest was made around 3:30 pm at Deurali Chowk along the Gaur–Chandrapur road section. The suspect has been identified as Suman Acharya, son of Gunn Bahadur Acharya of Padampokhari, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City–13, Makawanpur.
Police recovered a Beretta pistol marked "Made in Italy," a magazine, a Browning pistol with a magazine, 13 rounds of ammunition, a khukuri and various documents from Acharya's bag.
DIG Krishna Dhakal of APF No. 2 Chhinnamasta Brigade said the operation was based on intelligence received from the APF Intelligence Bureau. A team deployed from the Santapur security base under DSP Rajendra Bahadur Basnet detained Acharya after stopping him for a suspicion-based security check while he was walking through Deurali Chowk.
The APF said the seized weapons and the detainee are being handed over to Nepal Police for further investigation.
