Police in Sunsari have seized 240 kilograms of marijuana and arrested three individuals in connection with drug smuggling early this morning.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Area Police Office, Itahari, intercepted a suspicious white mini-truck (Na. 6 Kha 6116) near the forest area of the Koshi Highway in Tarahara, Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-20, at around 9:30 am.
During the inspection, police discovered the contraband concealed beneath 48 sacks of cabbage and 12 sacks of potatoes.
The arrested have been identified as the truck driver, Rajendra Rai (32) of Shahidbhumi Rural Municipality-6, Dhankuta; Sunil Rai (33), a passenger from the same area; and Suman Rai (34) of Barahakshetra Municipality-9, Sunsari, who was found behaving suspiciously near the scene.
The suspects, along with the vehicle and seized drugs, have been taken to the Area Police Office, Itahari for further investigation, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police and assistant spokesperson.
