SARLAHI, MAY 21

Sarlahi police on Monday night arrested a person with over 112 kilograms of marijuana being transported in an Indian-registered Scorpio jeep.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Area Police Office, Lalbandi, led by Inspector Birendra Singh, intercepted the vehicle at Pattharkot in Lalbandi Municipality-14. On spotting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, abandoning a Scorpio (BR 32 AN 0817) and a Pulsar motorcycle (Lu 33 Pa 3894). However, police managed to apprehend Som Bahadur Tamang (42), of Lalbandi-14 at around 10:00pm.

During questioning, Tamang admitted there was marijuana in the jeep. Police then discovered 21 packets of marijuana inside the vehicle, weighing a total of 112.78 kilograms, said DSP Saroj Rai, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sarlahi.

Tamang has been remanded to police custody for nine days by the Sarlahi District Court, and further investigation is underway, according to DSP Rai.
