27 pc of development budget spent

Chitwan, April 17

At a time when authorities across the country have failed to spend their development budget and collect revenue, Chitwan district has performed relatively better.

As per the data with the District Controller Office of Chitwan, 27 per cent of the total development budget allocated for the district has been spent in the district so far.

In the last fiscal, expenditure of development budget during this period stood at just 12 per cent.

“As much as Rs 915.4 million of the total development budget has been spent by the end of Chaitra (April 12) in the district,” said the office chief and chief controller Narayandatta Sharma.

According to Sharma, a budget of Rs 5.94 billion under current expenditure and Rs 3.384 billion under development expenditure was allocated to the district for the current fiscal.

“We’ve managed to spend 27 per cent of the development budget so far.

However, it is nothing we should be proud of as most of the budget usually gets frozen,” Sharma said, ruing the country-wise tendency to spend a large amount of budget at the end of the fiscal in a great hurry.
