Cottage industries rising in number in Lamjung

LAMJUNG: More and more cottage and small scale industries are being registered in Lamjung district in recent years. Denizens of Lamjung district involved in traditional farming have been increasingly attracted towards commercial farming and cottage industries.

According to the chief of Lamjung Cottage and Small Industries Development Committee, Maniram Nepal, 3,018 industries have registered under this category in the district till date including commercial farms, agricultural equipment industry, beauty parlour, tourism related industry, bakery, sewing, cardamom farming, beekeeping, and pig farming.

As many as 493 cottage and small industries have been registered in the district in the fiscal year 2017/18 alone, informed Nepal, adding that 263 small industries were registered in FY 2015/16.

After the government planned various programmes with priority given to the agriculture sector, youth in the district have been attracted towards commercial farming in recent years. According to the Committee, 644 agricultural farms have been registered in three years' time. Nepal added that many entrepreneurs are youths under 40 years.

The Committee said that lack of adequate irrigation facilities, fertilizers, seeds, manpower and sufficient income from traditional farming have led the people to opt for commercial farming.
