4 wheelers banned over Mahakali River bridge

DHANGADHI: Four wheelers have been banned from moving along the Mahakali Bridge after the water level in Mahakali River crossed the danger mark due to incessant rainfall, on Thursday morning.

According to Gaddachok Area Police Office, the vehicular movement was barred from the Indian side after the water flow rose to 168, 000 cubic feet per second at 2:00 pm on Thursday.

The water flow had reached 170,000 cusec at 9:00 am today, said SP Krishna Raj Panta at the APO.

With the rise of water level, the Indian side banned four wheelers, citing bridge security, he added.

The flow, however, is decreasing gradually, further stated Panta.

Meanwhile, locals residing by the river have been living in fear after police asked them to stay alert including Bhujela and Odali of Kanchanpur, Dodhara and Chandani.

According to the Kanchanpur District Polcie Office, the police and security squad are on standby in case of necessity.
