400 in dysentery grip

Dhading, October 11

Dysentery, which has been raging in Dhading district for over a week, has killed three persons

and rendered 40 critically ill in Lapa VDC-2.

The disease has affected over 400 people of Chepangcheng, Kachet, Humrang, Palange, Khading and Thulogaun in Lapa VDC, said a social worker, Jivan Tamang, identifying the dead as Suppal Tamang (50), Sukjong Tamang (45) and Kanchhimaya Tamang (32) of Tinchetgaun.

Villages lack health facilities, Tamang said, adding that it is difficult to treat patients as the affected areas are at a three-day walk from the district headquarters.

A group of villagers had arrived at the district headquarters today to take health workers to the affected areas, but could not meet any of them as today was a public holiday. Meanwhile, a team led by Health secretary Dr Dirgha Singh Bom visited the affected villages today.

“Doctors at the Dhading District Hospital Dibya Purush Dhakal, Dipendra Pandey and assistant health workers Krishna Poudel, Bishnu Rijal and Ram Narayan Pandit started treating patients from today,” chief of district public health office Mohammad Daood said.
