• Reconstruction drive is progressing well given the NRA’s target to accomplish the work within this fiscal

Nearly half of the private houses damaged by the devastating 2015 earthquakes have been reconstructed in Makawanpur.

Of the total 27,352 beneficiaries in the district, around 13,422 quake victims received all three instalments of the government grant enabling them to erect their houses.

Those receiving the third instalment of the grant amount make 49.07 per cent of the total number of victims who signed contracts for the grant with the government.

According to National Reconstruction Authority Implementation Unit’s Makawanpur Chief Somraj Timalsina, contract signing is due to be held with the remaining victims.

“The reconstruction campaign is progressing well given the target of National Reconstruction Authority of accomplishing the reconstruction work within this fiscal,” Timalsina said.

Number of those receiving the first and the second instalments of the grant comes to 26,642 and 19,997 respectively, according to Timalsina. He said till mid-March 12,040 quake victims were identified as eligible for retrofitting fund of quake-damaged houses. “Of them, 5,566 have even claimed the first instalment of the fund,” he said.

Even after more than five years of the devastating  earthquake many people are living in the open.
