Of the total 472,354 cases registered till date, Nepal's active caseload is 114,529

KATHMANDU, MAY 18

As many as 8,136 new Covid cases were registered in the last 24 hours while 6,891 people that had contracted the disease earlier were discharged after treatment in the same period.

Meanwhile, the nationwide Covid-19 death toll rose to 5,411 today as 196 more people succumbed to the contagion. The total infection count across the country has hit 472,354, the Health Ministry said.

Antigen tests confirmed 67 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 8,203.

The capital city recorded 2,049 infections, Lalitpur 365 cases, and Bhaktapur 221 cases today, taking the valley's total 24-hour figure to 2,635.

According to the health ministry, 20,979 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 20,286 were PCR tests while 693 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,812,959 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

As of today, 352,414 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 74.6 per cent.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 114,529.

Currently, there are 752 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Monday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 464,218 with 9,198 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 164 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.4 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 143 million people have recovered while more than 17 million cases are still active.
