Absconding alleged rapist murderer lands in police net while returning Nepal to visit family

KATHMANDU: Police on Monday has said that an absconding alleged rapist murderer has been arrested after five years from Sunauli border point in Rupandehi district recently.

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of Nepal Police apprehended the suspect Shyam Rawat from the border point while returning to Nepal to visit his family members yesterday.

The suspect has been accused of murdering a 14-year-old girl after raping her at the then Shrise Kawaitar in Saipur VDC-1 in Ramechhap district.

Oranising a press meet in the Capital today, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ganesh KC has said that the preliminary investigation and evidences have confirmed Rawat involvement in the crime.

"The suspect had been hiding in Andaman Nicobar Island and New Delhi in India after the crime, however, with the co-ordination of Indian Police, Rawat was apprehended from a border point in Rupandehi district while returning to Nepal with the motive of visiting his family," KC added.

Earlier, the minor was reported missing on January 19, 2012, after two weeks, her body was found at the Likhu River bank in the district.
