Adulteration slur on sweet shops

POKHARA: It has been found that adulteration is rampant in most of the sweet shops in Pokhara. District Monitoring Committee (DMC) after inspecting sweets from various shops disclosed the fact, today.

Kapil Koirala, coordinator of the monitoring committee and chairman of district chapter of Consumers' Forum said the monitoring of the shops would

continue till Tihar.

The monitoring committee has revealed that most of the shops were mixing up an inedible substance called 'hydro' in the sweets.

Hydro is used in the sweets as it contained a large amount sugar. "Hydro, an inedible substance might cause cancer and has adverse effect to human health," food inspector Ram Prasad Regmi said. “The substance is not for human consumption, however, the sweets businessmen are using it to make the sweets attractive,” he added. Experts also warned against excessive use of additives in sweets.
