All set for swearing-in ceremony: Speaker

Kathmandu, May 22:

Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang said today that all preparations have been made for conducting the first full meeting of the Constituent Assembly. He said the first CA meeting will implement the republican agenda passed by the interim parliament.

The full meeting of the CA will take place in the main hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC), Baneshwor, while committee meetings will be held in the parliament secretariat at Singha Durbar.

Offices of the CA chairman and vice-chairman, CA secretary-general and media centre will be located on ICC premises. All parties representing the CA will have their parliamentary offices in Singha Durbar.

Speaker Nembang said the Police Headquarters has been given the task of making security arrangements. He said all 258 employees of the parliament secretariat will be pressed into service for the first CA meeting, adding that additional number of employees required for the job will be hired from the ICC on contract basis.

The Speaker said a farewell will be held on May 26 for the outgoing members of the interim parliament and a swearing-in ceremony for CA members will be held on May 27. The existing council of ministers will appoint all 26 remaining members to the CA and also table a proposal

at the first meeting of the CA for implementing the republican agenda, he said.

The Speaker said the ICC has been leased at a cost of Rs 56.3 million, while Rs 13.8 million has been spent for furnishing the main meeting hall and purchasing mikes. The government has provided Rs 25 million to the police for security arrangements through the Home Ministry. Sixty-five seats have been allocated for the media covering the CA meeting.
