A renowned American mountain guide, along with three Nepali Sherpa climbers, has set a new record in mountain climbing as he achieved the Everest Triple Crown by climbing three mountains this season.

According to Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides, Garrett Madison, 44, owner of the Madison Mountaineering, has achieved the rare Everest Triple Crown by climbing three mountains – Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse and Mt Nuptse.

"Garrett Madison, Aang Phurba Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa and Dawa Tenjing Sherpa completed the Everest Triple Crown this season summiting Mt Nuptse on May 8, Everest on May 24 and Lhotse on May 25," Paudel said.

Garrett, who made his 13th ascent of Everest this season, has stood atop Lhotse at around 10:25am to complete his Everest Triple Crown. "Garrett is the first American climber to achieve the rare Triple Crown feat in a season," Paudel added.

Along with Garrett, Aang Phurba Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa and Dawa Tenjing Sherpa also scaled three peaks. On Mt Lhotse, they were with Danah Ahmed Abdulla Alali – UAE, Claudio Javier Beiza – Argentina and Pieter Tjerk Horsman – Netherlands, Paudel, who managed the Madison Mountaineering/Himalayan Guides expeditions this season, informed. From his company, legendary British climber Kenton Cool climbed the Triple Crown in 2013. "Garrett and the team have now achieved the same feat after 10 years," he added.
