BAJURA, JULY 1

A Bailey bridge has come into operation over the Dansanghu River in Budhinanda Municipality-2, improving road connectivity for residents of eastern and northern Bajura, particularly during the monsoon season.

The bridge was relocated from the Budhiganga River at Jadang in Badimalika Municipality after a permanent bridge was built there. It has now been reinstalled on the Martadi-Kolti road corridor and is operational after about three months of construction.

Budhinanda Municipality Mayor Janak Bohara said the bridge would significantly ease transportation for residents of Budhinanda Municipality, Jagannath Rural Municipality, Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality and Himali Rural Municipality. It is also expected to benefit travellers from neighbouring Humla and Mugu districts.

According to the Achham Road Division Office, the relocation and installation project cost more than Rs 20 million. The contract was awarded to DS Janakalyan JV of Kavre for Rs 20.11 million, excluding VAT, with completion targeted within the current fiscal year. The contractor completed the work before the end of Jestha.

The Bailey bridge had remained unused for several years after a permanent bridge replaced it at its previous location over the Budhiganga River.

Before the bridge was installed at Dansanghu, rising water levels during the rainy season frequently cut off traffic for weeks, forcing residents and vehicles to halt operations along the Martadi-Kolti road.

Although a permanent bridge is also under construction at the site, the Bailey bridge is expected to ensure uninterrupted transport until the permanent structure is completed.

The Martadi-Kolti road serves as a vital transport corridor for four local governments in eastern and northern Bajura. While bridges over the Anai and Dansanghu rivers are now operational, construction of bridges over the Bauli and Rajatoli rivers remains incomplete, with local residents expressing hope that completing those projects will ensure year-round road connectivity.
