Bardiya DAO to book grabbers of private land
Nepalgunj, May 13:
The Bardiya District Administration Office (DAO) has decided to initiate legal action against those who have captured private land and property.
In a notice today, CDO Shiva Prasad Nepal said: “Anyone who capture personal land and property against the law and constitution will be subject to legal action.”
Nepal said the administration issued the notice after the Maoist-affiliated Tharuwan Mukti Morcha (TMM) announced it will capture the land and property of the Jamindars (landlords) instead of helping rehabilitate those displaced during the conflict as per an understanding between the government, seven political parties and the Maoists.
Stating that it is the responsibility of the government to stop unlawful acts, Nepal said: “The administration will not spare anyone who do not abide by the law.”
The CPN-Maoist and its sister organisations have continued seizing private land and property in Bardiya even after the Maoists joined the government.
Last Thursday, TMM cadres captured the land of one Samsuddin Sheikh of Mahamadpur-7. The Maoists have also seized the land and property of six other persons in the district, including Hari Bahadur Upadhyaya, Kamal Kharel, Kalyan Khan of Padnaha-3 and Radhav Pratap Shah of Dodhari.
Govt land seized
MAHENDRANGAR: The proMaoist Tharuwan Rastriya Mukti Morcha (TRMM) on Sunday seized 38 bighas of land belonging to the Regional Agriculture Training Centre (RATC), the RATC building and a bus at Sundarpur of Suda VDC in Kanchapur.
Activists of the TRMM, All Nepal Farmers’ Association (Revolutionary) and other pro-Maoist bodies had rea-ched Suda to capture the land.
The TRMM had seized seven bighas of land owned by the Mahendranagar Development Committee on Saturday. “Land cannot be seized just by hoisting the party flags,” CDO Netra Prasad Sharma said. As Maoist cadres are involved in padlocking, vandalism and torching public property, security has been beefed up in the offices in the district. — HNS
