CHITWAN: Police said they have detained 21 cadres of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist for launching anti-elections activities.

Among those detained is the Maoist party's central committee member Krishna Bahadur Pariyar.

Nine of them are associated with the party's combatant force, said SP Deepak Thapa.

The Maoist cadres reportedly threatened candidates to withdraw from local level elections, according to police.

Meanwhile, police have maintained tight security in the district for the upcoming local level elections, SP Thapa added.
