KATHMANDU, MARCH 2
Korea-based Black Yak Company Ltd has announced to support Icefall doctors who are instrumental in fixing routes on Mt Everest.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed to this effect in the presence of Black Yak representatives, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee executives and officials from the Nepal Mountaineering Association.
As per the MoU, Black Yak has offered necessary equipment and fixing ropes to Icefall doctors for the next five years.
The MoU has been assigned by Kang Tae Sun, Chairman of BYN Black Yak, Nima Nuru Sherpa, President of NMA and Tshering Sherpa CEO of SPCC.
"Black Yak is very pleased to support Icefall doctors as they are the backbones to Everest climbing," Sun said. Black Yak is committed to support all efforts that help preserve mountain environment, according to Sun.
Former board director of Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal representative of the Korean Alpine Federation Ngawa Nima Sherpa and NMA President Nima Nuru Sherpa played a crucial role in bringing Black Yak to this noble initiative, shared SPCC's CEO Tshering Sherpa.
Amidst an event in Namche Bazaar, fixing equipment and ropes have been handed over to SPCC this morning as Icefall doctors are all set to leave for the base camp to begin rope fixing this spring season, he added. Black Yak Chair Sun, marketing director Seok Koung Hoon, project director Kim Jung Be, NMA and SPCC officials along with Icefall doctors were present on the occasion.
Till date, 6,664 people successfully reached the top of Everest. Icefall doctors handled by SPCC are the individuals responsible for making the route possible at the beginning of the expedition.
"These brave individuals are the ones who put the fixed ropes all the way up to the summit, ensuring the safety of climbers," Ngawa Nima Sherpa said, adding that Black Yak will continue its support even after five years as the company understands the value of these individuals.
Icefall doctors work in the middle of the night to place ladders all over the treacherous Khumbu icefall and they risk their lives and leave their families behind to help others achieve their goals, NMA President Nima Nuru Sherpa said, thanking Black Yak for its invaluable support.
While others may achieve their goal and leave the basecamp, these doctors remain there every year to support climbers all over the world, Sherpa added.
Black Yak Nepal's representative Bhim Gurung informed that protecting mountain environment and helping community are the company's top priorities under its social corporate responsibility initiatives.
Black Yak always inspired Korean trekkers visiting Nepal to bring back rubbish from the mountains, he added.
