Blockade cripples life in Morang

ITAHARI: Life has been crippled in the Dangi area at Kerabari VDC in Morang due to a blockade for the last 10 days following the murder of a boy.

Youth groups from Sundarpur, Morang have been enforcing the blockade after 18-year-old Amit Tamang from Sudarpur was murdered by a group from Dangi.

No efforts have been made by the local administration and authorities concerned to bring the situation under control.

Youths from Sundarpur had cut off telephone and electricity lines in Dangi immediately after the murder of Amit. They also demolished some houses and threatened to avenge Tamang's murder if anybody came to Sundarpur.

No vehicles have been plying on the Dangi-Itahari road for the last 10 days.

A local teacher told The Himalayan Times on condition of anonymity that they were facing difficulty in reaching Itahari through Sundarpur. According to the teacher, transportation from Dangi to Itahari has been disrupted completely after trees have been felled on the roads.

According to some intellectuals of Sundarpur, some notorious youths of Sundarpur have imposed blockade over Dangi inhabitants.

A social worker admitted that they could not speak against the blockade due to fear.

Locals of Dangi and Sundarpur vented their ire on rights activists and government security agencies for showing no concern towards the incident.
