Boer goat-rearing thrives in Ramechhap
Ramechhap, November 3
Ramechhap has recently seen an upsurge in the husbandry of Boer goat, a breed of goat developed in South Africa for meat production.
Sunaulo Goat Farm had imported ten boer goats from South Africa six months ago for Rs 3 lakh each.
Farmers have expressed satisfaction with the returns from this business venture.
A farmer Sadhuram Dhungel said, “It was difficult at first, because the goats had a hard time adjusting to the environment and food in the beginning.” However, Dhungel said the investments were rewarded after continuous hard work.
Of the 10 goats, only one died of disease. Jhanak Shrestha, another farmer, said that one goat weighs around 75 kg. “We have bred more boer goats now, and we plan to increase production by over 50 per cent,” he said.
