BARA, FEBRUARY 10

An under-construction bridge over the Balganga River is yet to be completed due to a land dispute along the Simara-Kohlbi road section in Bara.

The bridge was left in limbo after Sakhara Housing Company Private Limited, Kathmandu, filed a case claiming the land at the last moment.

According to the housing company, the bridge was being constructed on its land.

Hearing the case, Bara District Court had called both the sides for discussion on January 19. Rameshwor Prasad Yadav of Kalaiya sub-metropolis had filed the case in the court on behalf of the housing company on January 8. The construction company said that the government had to settle the dispute. The housing company is demanding compensation for the land, but the construction company is not ready to compensate due to which construction work has been affected.

The construction company said that it would lose its labourers, if the work did not start soon. Harichandra Yadav, on behalf of the construction company, said they were preparing to complete the bridge within the set date. "But construction was stopped due to obstruction crested by the housing company," he added. He said that many people have been facing problems because of this.

Locals said that they could not walk freely along the road as construction materials were scattered everywhere.

Bali Ram Chaudhary, a local, said that many vehicles were stranded on the banks of the river due to lack of bridge. People, heavy trucks and other vehicles heading towards Manarwa, Jaitapur, and Kohlbi from Simara have been facing the problems due to lack of bridge. The planning of the construction company has also been affected due to this reason.

Meanwhile, the housing company's representative Rameshwor Yadav said that he had to move the court after the bridge was constructed on his land illegally.
