KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 28
Rob Fenn, the British Ambassador to Nepal, and his wife Julia Fenn celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in a destination wedding style at the Janaki temple in Janakpur, the city of love, as he calls it.
They celebrated their wedding anniversary by exchanging garlands and vermilion (sindoor) as per Maithili culture.
The priest of Janaki Temple chanted mantras before Fenn placed a crown on his head ( traditionally known as Maur), garlanded his wife Julia, and placed a ring on her finger. Ram Roshan Das, Janaki Temple's co-mahant, assisted with the rituals. Madhesh Provincial Assembly Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal, Janakpurdham Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah, and others in attendance congratulated the couple.
Ambassador Fenn stated that Mithila's traditions, language, costumes, and culture are among the best in the world, and he was intrigued by the plan to develop the region as a wedding venue.
"Last year, while visiting various Madhesh locations, I realised how important Mithila's cultural heritage is. The unparalleled beauty of this region inspired me to celebrate our wedding anniversary here," Ambassador Fenn stated.
He stated that he would make every effort to promote Janakpur as a wedding destination.
He expressed his willingness to pursue various development projects in collaboration with the Government of Nepal through his initiative and the British Embassy's support.
He expressed confidence that the Ambassador's contribution will re-energise efforts to establish Janakpurdham as a religious, cultural, and tourist destination.
The government of Nepal has set out to make Janakpurdham a popular wedding destination.
