Build Tamor project, demand stakeholders
Panchthar, April 29
Various stakeholders, including former and sitting lawmakers, have joined hands to exert pressure on the government to construct a reservoir-based Tamor hydropower project.
A gathering of former and sitting lawmakers and ministers from Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung and Terhathum today decided to form a committee to press the government to construct a reservoir -based project on the Tamor River.
Around three decades ago in 1986, JICA Nepal and Nepal Electricity Authority, while conducting study for the development of Koshi Hydropower Project, had concluded that a reservoir-based project could be constructed on the river.
The study had shown that the project could generate 762 megawatts of electricity.
Speaking at the gathering, former lawmaker Dambar Singh Sambahanphe said that the government should initiate construction of a reservoir in the river to achieve the target of generating as much as 10,000 megawatts of electricity in the next 10 years.
