CDC submits integrated draft of new constitution to Nembang, Sitaula presents it before full house of CA
Update: When the Constituent Assembly meeting started, some lawmakers objected to the ongoing process of constitution drafting despite the Supreme Court's stay order against the 16-point agreement.
Responding to that, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang said the Constituent Assembly was a sovereign body, and asked Constitution Drafting Committee Chairman Krishna Prasad Sitaula to table the integrated draft of new constitution.
KATHMANDU: Constitution Drafting Committee Chairman Krishna Prasad Situala submitted the first draft of new constitution to CA Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang at the CA Secretariat in Singha Durbar premises on Tuesday evening.
The CDC could finalise the integrated draft, incorporating differing views of different political parties, this evening only after the major parties resolved their differences over all issues.
The draft would be presented before the full house of CA this evening itself.
After submitting the dossier to the CA chairman, Sitaula said that the integrated draft was a big achievement.
Earlier though rescheduled from 2 pm to 6 pm, the CA meeting could not commence on time as the draft was not ready by then. Now, the CA meeting would start at 8:00 pm.
The integrated draft would be put in the CA's official website can.gov.np for public feedback today itself, according to the CA chairman.
Nepali Congress lawmaker said that the CA would promulgate the new constitution by the end of July end if it could not happen in the mid-July.
The draft could not be presented before the CA as per the original schedule yesterday as the UCPN-Maoist, one of the four signatories of the 16-point agreement, expressed objection to some provisions in the draft constitution.
