'Chhaupadi' promoters to be cut-off from govt facilities
AMARGADHI: Bhageshwor Rural Municipality of Dadeldhura district has announced a campaign against the practice of 'chhaupadi' through its village assembly.
Chairperson of the rural municipality Kaushila Bhatta shared that the campaign was being organised to end the ill-practice of chhaupadi – the practice of secluding girls from their residence during menstruation.
The public awareness campaign has been initiated to end the social belief that women are impure during menstruation and should be banished from their homes during that time.
“We have decided to axe local government’s services and facilities to the person/family who are found denying girls from going to school during menstruation or promoting the practice of chhaupadi by keeping them in sheds away from their homes," she added.
