At an interaction programme in Sunsari district headquarters organised by the District Women and Children Office on Friday, journalist Jaya Krishna Yadav stated that 3,166 were married off before turning 10 in the last fiscal year.

Of them, 2,568 are girls while 598 are boys, Yadav stated in his paper titled 'Child Marriage Reduction.'

According to the latest census, more than 28,000 children were married off during 10 to 14 years of age while the total number of children getting married off before 10 has crossed nearly 201,141 in Sunsari district.
