Civilians' death in police firing against int'l norms, says NHRC

KATHMANDU: Expressing its concern over death of three persons in a clash with police in Rangeli and Dainiya of Morang district on Thursday, the National Human Rights Commission said deaths of civilians in police firing were against the international norms and values of human rights.

Issuing a press statement today, NHRC spokesperson Mohna Ansari urged the government to probe into the case and book the culprits.

The constitutional human rights watchdog also demanded that the government provide relief support to the victims' families and free treatment to those injured in the incident.

Informing that it is monitoring the situation in the incident site, the NHRC said people's right to peaceful gathering and assembly should be protected as guaranteed by the Constitution.

It reiterated that solutions to the current problems must be sought through peaceful dialogues.
