Close shave for teachers’ leader

PHIDIM: Rup Narayan Jabegu, district president of Nepal Teachers’ Union Panchthar, narrowly survived an attack by an unidentified gang on Wednesday.

The gang attacked him with khukuris and fired couple of rounds of bullets around 11 pm last night while he was sleeping in his home in Yangnam VDC-2.

According to Jabegu, the gang had knocked on his door asking his help to settle a debate in the neighbouring village. “When I asked who they were, they broke down the front door, barged into my house and attacked me with khukuris and fired three rounds of bullets,” recalled Jabegu.

Luckily non of the bullets found the target as Jabegu narrowly survived the attack. Meanwhile, he sustained deep cuts on his left hand while trying to defend himself.

Following the attack on Jabegu, irate locals nabbed Maoist activist Surya Jabegu of Yangnam VDC-3 today and handed him over to the police alleging of his involvement in the incident.

The locals also went to the houses of Maoist activists Devman Thamsuhang and Santosh Acharya of the neighbouring Nagin VDC 6 and enquired about the incident. Meanwhile, district based various teachers’ organisations condemned the attack on Jabegu.
