Chaudandigadhi Municipality in Udayapur has made it mandatory for principals of its community schools to teach at least two hours a day from next month as part of efforts to improve learning outcomes.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Municipal Education Committee on Friday as part of a broader package of education reforms aimed at improving academic quality, according to Suraj Karki, chief of the municipality's Education Section.
Karki said the new rule, which comes into effect from mid-August (Bhadra), is intended to ensure that principals play a more active role in classroom teaching rather than limiting their responsibilities to school administration.
The municipality has also decided to deploy volunteer municipal teachers to 20 community schools facing teacher shortages.
As part of the reform drive, the municipality will launch a campaign to make Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms dust-free and appoint dedicated facilitators to monitor and supervise teaching and learning activities at the primary level.
The municipality hopes the measures will strengthen classroom instruction and raise the overall quality of education in its community schools.
