Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Renu Kumari Yadav has instructed officials to complete the under-construction Nakhhu-Bhainsepati-Bungmati road project in Lalitpur by mid-April.
During her field inspection of the project today, the minister said she found there was no problem in completing the project within the stipulated time.
She went on to say that the project had failed to gain momentum in the past five to six years as the road widening works remained halted due to some hurdles.
The project faced obstructions as physical structures could not be removed from some locations and now there remained no such condition."
The minister claimed that she was working to create an atmosphere to expedite the project work ever since she assumed office.
Until sometime ago, there were physical infrastructure such as houses and boundary walls along the project site and now they have been removed and the sewage system has been managed, she said.
The minister hopes the project will be completed in two months as just work to blacktop the road was remaining.
"The contractor companies have been directed to finish the project by mid-April."
She said that a team from the ministry was busy monitoring the under-construction road project for some months, adding that the respective province and local governments were also responsible for monitoring the under-construction road project and finding out if any issue was hampering progress. The minister was accompanied by ministry Secretary Rabindra Nath Shrestha, Director General of Department of Roads Shivahari Sapkota, among others.
The five-kilometre road project was inaugurated five years ago. According to Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project, the project has achieved 70 per cent progress so far.
