BAJURA, JANUARY 9

Continuous snowfall has affected lives of the people in the hilly and mountainous regions of the Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces.

The extreme cold brought on by days of continuous snowfall has wreaked havoc on people's lives in the affected areas.

With the sharp drop in temperature, some of the settlements in the regions have migrated to the lower elevations to avoid the cold, informed Bagdal Malla, chair of Humla Taja Maila Rural Municipality.

The excessive cold has also forced the school to close down for the winter, Malla added.

The harsh weather has had an impact on people's everyday life in all nine local levels of Bajura district.

According to local Dharmalal Rokaya of Himali Rural Municipality, residents in the upper levels of Swamikartik, Pandagufa rural municipalities, and Budhinanda Municipalities have relocated to Kolti and Martadi for the winter.

Schools in the district have been impacted due to the snowfall in the higher regions and persistent rain in the lower parts, according to Gopal Dutta Joshi, District Education Coordinating Officer.

Although only a few residents in the upper sections of Bajura's northern region used to relocate to the lower parts in previous years, due to the excessive cold this year, the majority of the residents have moved to milder areas.

With significant drop in temperature, the number of viral cases has risen in Karnali's Humla, Mugu, Jumla, and Kalikot.

The Martadi-Kolti road portion is still closed due to three feet of snow in the Porakeh Lekh, making it difficult to open the route, according to the Bajura District Administration Office.
