Dharan, June 21:

It was once regarded as one of the world’s top ten golf courses. But there is a cowshed inside the golf course situated on the premises of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan. The Nirvana Country Club, a commercial agency, has taken the golf course on lease for four years and it has constructed a cowshed inside the golf course, blame players. Keshar Limbu, president of the Dharan Golf Club, said construction of the cowshed inside the golf course has affected the game. The players claimed that the club has felled down trees located at Two number T-Box for rearing cows. Vice-president of the club Shankar Man Shakya said: “The existence of golf course is in crisis. The Nirvana Country Club is motivated to earn money by misusing historic golf course. It is a great disaster.” But, Kalpana Bhandari, proprietor of the Country Club, denied having constructed any cowshed inside the golf course. “Cows are reared in the area but the shed is outside the course. We are also making plans to improve the condition of the golf course,” she said. “We have totally banned rearing cows on the premises of our institute as it can badly affect the environment of the institute,” said a high level officer at BPKIHS. The golf course was constructed with the financial support of the United Kingdom in the 1960s, targeting the health and recreational facilities of the retired British Gurkhas.
