BAJURA, JULY 10

Candidates representing CPN-UML have secured both mayoral and deputy mayoral seats in the recently concluded local level re-election in Budhiganga Municipality of Bajura district.

Ram Bahadur Baniya and Maya Kumari Khadka (Kunwar) of CPN-UML will hold the office of the mayor and the deputy mayor, respectively.

Baniya received 4,777 votes while deputy mayor Maya Kumari was deemed fit for the post by 4,727 voters. Nepali Congress candidates representing the alliance Rang Bahadur Khati and Rita Shahi received 3,774 and 3,755 votes each.

Budhiganga Municipality has 10 wards among which, seven ward-chair seats have been claimed by CPN-UML leaders while Nepali Congress candidates were limited to only three seats.

In wards 1,2,3, 5,6,9 and 10 CPN-UML representatives have emerged victorious as ward chairs while wards 4, 7 and 8 have been claimed by Congress.

The earlier conducted local level election on May 13 was scrapped over row of accusations of fraud and irregularities by contesting CPN-UML and Nepali Congress cadres in the Municipality.

Following the cancellation, re-election dates were announced for July 7 and was conducted amid heavy security.
