CPN-UML leading in vote count on Day V

Kathmandu, May 19

The CPN-UML has won at least 103 posts of mayors and rural municipality chiefs until the fifth day of vote count.

Similarly, the Nepali Congress has secured at least 97 seats of municipality mayor and rural municipality chief. As many as 73 NC candidates have secured the post of rural municipality chiefs in different places.

According to the latest poll results provided by the Election Commission, UML candidates were elected in 32 mayoral posts, including of Tokha Municipality and Kirtipur Municipality.

Meanwhile, 71 UML candidates have been elected chiefs of rural municipalities, while the party has been leading in additional 17 local units. NC candidates have won at least 24 seats of mayor, including of Dakshinkali Municipality, Gokarneshwor Municipality and Nagarjun Municipality in Kathmandu.

The CPN-Maoist Centre stands in third position as of yet. Candidates of the party have been elected in at least in 45 local units, including seven mayoral posts.

One candidate each from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Naya Shakti Party Nepal have secured the chief’s post in at least one rural municipality.

In Kathmandu Metropolitan City, UML’s mayoral candidate Bidya Sundar Shakya is leading with 12,733 votes while NC’s Raju Raj Joshi is trailing in second position with 8,333 votes — as of 9:00 pm today.  The EC said it would take at least one week to complete the vote counting in KMC.

Likewise, NC’s mayoral candidate Chir Babu Maharjan is leading with 15,041 votes, while UML Harikrishna Benjankar is trailing behind him with 13,216 votes in Lalitpur Metropolitan City. Officials at the Election Commission said the election results of about 90 per cent local units were unveiled until this evening.
