UML warns government against signing deal with long-term effects

Kathmandu, September 4

CPN-UML Vice Chair Bhim Rawal today warned the government not to sign any deal that would have long term impact on the nation.

Taking special time at the Parliament, Rawal demanded clarification from Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba over his remarks about the constitution amendment bill, which Rawal said was a domestic issue.  Rawal was given time to speak after UML lawmakers stalled House proceedings. He said the incumbent government was a temporary government for four to five months and hence it should not take any decision that would have far reaching implications.

He also lambasted the PM for signing a deal with India to lay oil and gas pipelines between the two countries and for concluding the detailed project report of Pancheshwor Hydropower Project.

He also criticised the government for transferring employees from the Ministry of General Administration and Ministry of Home Affairs after the poll code of conduct came into effect.

UML lawmakers had obstructed the House meeting after Rawal’s remarks by standing from their seats.
