UML wins top posts in Tulsipur Sub-metropolis

Mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates from the CPN-UML won the second round of civic polls in Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City of Dang.

As per the election results announced last night, Ghanashyam Pandey won the mayoral post with 22, 857 votes in the sub-metropolis, while his closest rival Gahendra Giri of Nepali Congress bagged 18, 903 votes. Maya Acharya from the UML won the deputy mayoral post with 21, 037 votes, with her closet rival Debika Nepali of NC garnering 20,185 votes in the election.

Earlier, Pandey was elected to the post of deputy mayor of then Tulsipur Municipality on a UML ticket in local body elections held in 1997.

The UML won in a total of six local units, in Dang. The party also emerged victorious in Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City; Lamahi Municipality; Gadawa, Dangisaran and Babai rural municipalities in the civic polls.

The Nepali Congress, which had won in all five constituencies in the second Constituent Assembly elections, won in three local units in Rajpur, Rapti and Shantinagar rural municipalities in the second phase of local level elections this time around, whereas the CPN-Maoist Centre only secured victory in Bangalachuli Rural Municipality.
