Crusher workers' stir keeps Amlekhgunj tense


PATHLAIYA: Amlekhgunj area in Bara remained tensed throughout the day today in connection with yesterday's incident in which policeman Sanjiv Barma was killed and two crusher industry workers were injured.

The agitating workers demonstrated in the area by burning tyres since early morning. Workers obstructed Pathalaiya-Hetauda road section by parking loaders, dozers, tippers and other vehicles. Pathalaiya bazaar remained shut due to the agitation. The police forcefully cleared the blockade in the afternoon. Around two hundred police personnel were deployed to clear the highway. The demonstrators had clashed with them.

Injured workers Kedar Bista and Mangal Lama were sent to Kathmandu in the morning for further treatment. Crusher entrepreneurs and workers are in agitation for a week after the government imposed new restrictions on their operations. The entrepreneurs have also been demanding reduction in taxes on the export of gravel, which the government recently hiked. The workers have been agitating fearing the loss of their jobs after the closure of the industry. Eleven crusher industries are in operation in Parsa Wildlife Reserve.
