Kapilvastu, November 11:

A group of armed dacoits last night shot dead police constable at Bahadurgunj of the Krishnanagar-Chandrauta road section in Kapilvastu district, said SP at the District Police Office (DPO) Jay Bahadur Chand.

A civilian was also injured in the incident. According to Chand, constable Nabin Gurung of Tanahun was killed when the dacoits who had hid in a sugarcane field opened fire at a police patrol.

The injured civilian Ajmal Khan of Purushottam VDC is undergoing treatment in Shivraj Hospital, Bahadurgunj.

Police arrested a dacoit Parsu Ram Kewat of Badhani, India, from the site. Police also seized bombs and explosives among other materials from him, said inspector Trilok Bahadur Chand. Police have also arrested three suspected dacoits, he said.

A joint police team from the Krishnanagar DPO and Bahadurgunj area police office has launched a search operation in the border areas.
