DAO retracts curfew order in Saptari as UDMF vows to continue protest

RAJBIRAJ: The District Administration Office has retracted a curfew order without implementing it in Saptari district as the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front vowed to continue its agitation.

A meeting of the security committee held earlier today had decided to clamp an indefinite curfew in the district headquarters Rajbiraj and adjoining areas from 2:30 pm.

Issuing a press statement, the United Democratic Madhesi Front said it will continue its protest until its demands are fulfilled by the government.

The demands include recognition of three of its cadres who were killed in police shooting yesterday as martyrs, compensation to the bereaved families, free treatment to the injured, formation of a committee to look into yesterday's fatal incident and passage of revised Constitution amendment bill in the Parliament.

The UDMF in Saptari said in the statement that it will announce sterner agitation.

DSP Dan Bahadur Karki, who earlier told the media that the curfew order will be effective from 2:30 pm, said the prohibitory order was retracted at the last moment.
